A list of Taipei café´s selected for their interior design, decent wifi, electricity availability and .... koffie.
Cafe Laku Laku [Daan District]
Nicely designed trendy cafe there are two Laku Laku cafe and this is the newest by this owner. Laku Laku has an interesting selection of drinks and deserts. With semi-outdoor terrace (smoking) good rest rooms. Its very popular so be early to get a spot. Along the walls are tables for laptops with electricity supply.
Agnès b.CAFé L.P.G.
Flagship cafe of the clothing retailer Agnes b. Agnes b. has several café´s now combined with shops in malls all over Taipei. In this case they converted an old family house into a stylish cafe with an office upstairs. Good example of re-use and preservation of old buildings in Taipei in my opinion. Good selection of quality drinks, deserts and lunches. Very popular for informal business meetings, ask for a wifi code when purchasing your drink. Limited spots with electricity.
A nice fusion of vintage European furnitures with Japanese inspired decoration. Nicely curated objects are on display and there are plenty of magazines to read. Adjacent is a narrow terrace for when the weather is not to hot. The staff can be a bit cool and distant but it fits for this small space. The vintage school chairs and tables are a bit to small to work at for tall people like me. Electricity socket are also limited. Best for reading a magazine, write a bit or read a book and enjoy the drinks and food.
Contemporary style cafe located at a narrow neighbourhood road. They pride them selfs for the hand-drip coffee (filter coffee) and offer sets of coffee with a dessert. The design is simple and fresh and they provide a large shared work table with electricity plugs or you can choose the tables with view of the road.
Woolloomooloo WXY Cafe
Very large two level cafe/bistro, great for meeting up with friends for a chat. The concept is developed around families with young kids and getting to know the person sitting next to you. Upstairs is a large terrace and there is a good supply of books and magazines. In weekends packed with families with young children = loud. The lights are very dimmed and lack of electricity sockets make it less suitable for working on your laptop or even just reading a book. The interior design is great it is inspired by industrial warehouses with lots of wood and metal. Big selection of foods and drinks of variable quality. The owner has now expanded to the upper levels with a hotel and exhibition space.
Dears Waffle, Bakery & Cafe
Dears is a very carefully detailed and designed cafe / bakery, when I visited it just opened and had a very limited selection of food and drinks on its menu. Maybe it changed by now. It is located on a corner of busy secondary roads, always something to see. WiFi available and limited spots for electricity.
Nichi Nichi + park
This is the newest of the two Nichi Nichi café´s just a bit further down the street from the original Nichi Nichi. Nichi Nichi + Park has a great view of a park and is located on the second floor. Access only by a narrow steep staircase. The café is spacious and very light thanks to the big windows that also give access to a narrow balcony. Even though the café is spacious the number of comfortable seats are somehow limited. There is a long table in front of the barista with electric outlets, free WiFi is available.
Cafe Laku Laku [Songshan District]
This Songshan location of Laku Laku is the original cafe in a relaxed neighbourhood of Taipei. The area has several fashion and interior shops dotted between restaurants and café´s. You can find Beams, United arrows in this area too. Laku Laku has a narrow outdoor terrace mostly used by smokers. Its very popular so be early to get a spot. There are several tables with electricity, wifi is provided.
Afterhours Cafe · goods [Songshan District]
Spacious café combined with a small store mainly selling utensils and decorative items. The cafe has a great view of the backstreet where locals go about their business. wifi available and some tables have electricity. The vintage furniture is rather low. Both chairs and tables are less comfortable for taller persons. The café also serves Japanese style lunch and diners.
cafe showroom [Songshan District]
Mid-size cafe that is attached to a gallery with a minimal approach to decoration. Wooden furniture is mixed with modern art. Wifi available and electricity at selected spots. Fujin Street is buzzing recidential area and is dotted with trendy cafe´s, bistro´s, shops and even schools.
Rooster Cafe & Vintage
Very small but comfortable cafe located in a trendy shopping area. Perhaps more a stopover for a coffee and desert rather then a long afternoon hangout.
Fika Fika Cafe
Bright and spacious cafe/bistro that has adopted a Nordic theme. European inspired food and a contemporary minimalist interior. Fika Fika pride themselves in winning a Norwegian prize for their Espresso. Their signature coffee is served from NT300. A small Selection of brunch sets and desserts are offered. The layout is arranged around an open kitchen and is uncomplicated yet tastefully furnished with furniture from a well known Swedish company. Wood accents give a warm touch. The high ceiling and large windows make it ideal for reading. No electricity for your laptop on weekends! There is a rather exposed terrace facing Yitong park.
Cosy freestyle cafe with a large stock of books and magazines. There is a small outdoor terrace. Coffee, tea, desserts and sandwiches are on offer. Large windows give a view on the busy crossroads of two small lanes. It is a very popular place for young people to read or work on their computer. WiFi and electricity are available at all seats. Be early if you want a place to sit.
Busy Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner and Coffee spot. Located in the business area of Neihu district. Popular with office people on weekdays and crowded with families in the weekends. Don´t be deterred by large crowds at the entrance they probably are waiting for their takeaway. Offering very sharply priced food and drinks of reasonable quality. Good spot to work for a view hours, free WiFi and electricity are available. Be early it tends to fill up quickly specially after 11 in the morning.
This cafe is a bit difficult to locate. A small concrete staircase leads to the second floor where Homey´s is located. True to it´s name the interior has a home feeling. There is a separate lounge room including bookcase and two narrow balcony´s mainly for smoking. During my weekday visits there was a lot of cooking going on, I found the smell a bit to strong for my comfort. But they offer a lot of space and big windows supply lots of daylight. WiFi and Electricity available.
A8 Café & Gallery
Owned by a famous Taiwanese actres/singer. A8 is a café in name but is actually a bistro set in a renovated barn style. It is decorated with a random collection of vintage Chinese and European furnitures. The Gallery is in the basement. There is a large selection of dishes, drinks and desserts on the menu. I ordered the brunch but I would not recommend it to friends. Prices are above avarage compared to the other bistro/cafe´s in this list. Attracks patrons from different backgrounds, There is WiFi , you have to find a good spot for electricity access.
Small café on a busy road. Mainly has high tables with stools. Relax serves a wide range of beers, deserts, burgers and special coffee´s. Less suitable for working on your laptop in my opinion. WiFi and Electricity available.
Café Mussion Taipei
This café is part of an University building / museum and it has a Gallery feeling to it. Heigh ceiling and white interior with but wooden furnitures make it comfortable. I would not recommend deserts here but definitely a good spot to catch up with a friend. WiFi available but I haven´t spotted Electricity.
If a subtle religious undertone doesn´t bother you, you can enjoy the good food and drinks in this popular cafe. Get there early if you want a good spot. Their best asset is the location in a renovated Japanese house. It has a relatively large terrace in its own garden. A small vintage shop is under the same roof. Interesting selection of dishes and drinks. WiFi available and limited spots with Electricity.
